Video call: Johannesburg-Gent.

Model: Mel Tashna Perry

This is my first experiment of an online photoshoot. The lockdown in which we are living right now, because of the Coronavirus crisis, brought us to isolation and to stop travelling. But there are so many ways now, thanks to technologies to stay connected.
I got to virtually travel, for my first time to South Africa. Staying at my desk in Ghent, Belgium, I photographed this lovely model, Mel Tashna Perry, in her garden in Johannesburg. From the rainy and cold Belgium, I got to see the amazing light of South Africa.
It’s been a really interesting experiment!
Usually, during a photoshoot I move a lot, I prepare everything and I direct the model. In this occasion was challenging the fact that I couldn’t move around her but I had to give her direction on how to position her computer so that I could get the frame I wanted, I had to wait for the connection, I had to give direction moving my hands and body because a lot of times she couldn’t hear, far from her computer. It’s been a great training about trust and giving directions. I couldn’t expect a better model, she was completely following all my instructions and trusting my eye.
The only flaw was the bad wife connection and consequently the quality of the images.
I decided to show sometimes parts of the computer and the little square with my image because I wanted to be understood that is an online photoshoot.
